Dec 27, 2017 - Has anyone come across one of these old Miracord 46's lately? New from Radio Shack back then and it was my most favorite turntable.
Smooth vinyl precision.
ELAC celebrates its 90th anniversary by saluting the Golden Age of stereo when turntables reigned supreme. The legend of ELAC’s Miracord turntable lives on today, with dealers and customers constantly asking when the ELAC loudspeaker family will finally include a turntable. The resurgence of vinyl has created a groundswell of enthusiasm among audiophiles and even casual listeners, and for those with roots in hi-fi, the ELAC Miracord remains an iconic name from the era of the long-playing disc.
Inert MDF chassis
The 12 lb (5.5 kg) MDF chassis rests on specially developed silicone feet that decouple the deck completely from the surface on which it is placed.

The aluminum platter weighs almost 14 lbs (6.2 kg) and sits on a sub-platter whose hardened steel axis rotates on an 8 mm ruby ball for minimal friction. The axis is mounted using high-quality sintered bronze bearing bushings.
001c Isolated motor and sophisticated suspension
The motor is double-decoupled from the chassis and, therefore, from the tonearm. Along with the rubber damping, the suspensions employed use materials that have proven themselves in the development and manufacture of ELAC loudspeakers.
001c Advanced carbon-fiber tonearm
The newly developed tonearm made of carbon fiber forms a perfect symbiotic relationship with the drive mechanism.
001c High-resolution moving magnet cartridge
The pickup with its MicroLine stylus was developed specially for ELAC in cooperation with Audio Technica and comes precision-mounted with each turntable.
001c Exquisite materials and finishes
The Miracord 90 Anniversary is an aesthetic masterpiece that complements contemporary interiors and pays homage to the classic turntable design of ELAC’s original Miracord. It is available in three combinations: black base with gloss white plinth, silver base with gloss black plinth, and black base with oiled walnut plinth.
001c hi guys.
to make a long story short, i inherited my very first turntable,
a real turd, from my father. it was a 1970's BSR '200 BAX'
and, nearly ten years later, i found my current TT
for $1.00 at a rummage sale, a german made
ELAC MIRACORD 46 rebadged for RADIO SHACK's REALISTIC imprint;
i fully restored and modified it, removing the junk stock
RCA's and power cord. i also removed the wood plinth
and polished it with OLD ENGLISH wood polish,
as well as shining up the dust cover with
a plastic scratch remover/polish.
while i was at it, i re-lubed the mechanism,
added a set of high-quality stereo RCAs and a
thick power cable with three ferrite beads slipped
around it, and added a set of kitchen table levelling-feet
to the base to serve as isolators;
i'm quite satisfied with it, and could easily live with it
permanently. it does indeed look and sound fantastic, after all...
